International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
NMS is accredited with the International Baccalaureate to deliver the Diploma Programme to students in Classes 11 and 12.
The IB Diploma is considered one of most challenging and balanced pre-university courses in the world that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. The program has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities.
The Diploma Program prepares students for effective participation in the global society by providing physical, intellectual, emotional and ethical development.

The IB Diploma Program is an academically challenging and balanced program of education designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. The program has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities.
IB Diploma Curriculum Model
Students choose 6 courses from the following subject groups: studies in language and literature; language acquisition; individuals and societies; sciences; mathematics; and the arts.
Students may opt to study an additional sciences, individuals and societies, or languages course, instead of a course in the arts.
Each student takes at least three (but not more than four) subjects at higher level( HL), and the remaining at standard level(SL).HL and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at higher level.

Core of the IB DP
Besides the 6 subjects it is mandatory for each Diploma student to undertake a course in the Theory of Knowledge. This is an inter-disciplinary programme designed to stimulate critical reflection on knowledge and on experience gained both inside the Classroom and outside.
The Extended Essay is another unique feature of the IBDP; students undertake original research on a topic of special interest and write a thesis of no more than 4,000 words.
The 'Creativity, Action and Service' (CAS) programme plays a crucial part in the development of well-rounded, thoughtfully aware and caring young people.
Assessment
The IB uses both external and internal assessment to assess the following skills in students:
- Analysing and presenting information
- Evaluating and constructing arguments
- Solving problems creatively.
- Retaining knowledge
- Understanding key concepts
- Applying knowledge and methods.
- Developing an international outlook and intercultural skills
External Assessment
The DP students are required to take the External Assessment towards the end of the 2 year course. The External Assessment includes written papers which are marked by external IB Examiners.
Internal assessment
Internal assessment conducted by the teachers over the 2 years in the form of oral work in languages, laboratory work in the sciences, artistic performances, investigations in mathematics and research tasks in other subjects, is also accounted for in the student’s final score for Final IB DP transcript.
In the DP, students receive grades ranging from 7 to 1, with 7 being highest. Students receive a grade for each DP course attempted. A student’s final Diploma result score is made up of the combined scores for each subject and the Core components-TOK,CAS and EE out of a possible score of 45 points. The diploma is awarded to students who gain at least 24 points, subject to certain minimum levels of performance including successful completion of the three essential elements of the DP core.
The IB is globally recognized by universities, with its students gaining competitive offers for further study.

Benefits of the IB Diploma Programme
IB Diploma Programme encourages students to think critically and develop international mindedness considering both local and global contexts. It provides a liberal combination of subjects. An IBDP student is recognized by universities as an intelligent, well-organized, hard-working, critical thinker with a global perspective.
The learner profile and the IB DP core requirements of theory of knowledge (TOK), the extended essay and creativity, action, service (CAS) broaden the educational

IB Grading
The candidates are graded on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest) points in each of their subjects: HL and SL. For HL subjects Grades 4 to 7 are deemed ‘Pass’, whereas for SL subjects Grades 3 to 7 are deemed ‘Pass’. 3 points may be awarded for the Extended Essay (EE) and work on the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course. Thus, the maximum score possible is 45. Diploma may be awarded for a minimum of 24 points.
University Recognition
The IB Diploma Programme is highly recognized by Universities across the world. However it is recommended that students check with universities before applying.

FAQs about IB in India.
Yes. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognizes the IB Diploma as equivalent to the Plus Two (10+2) Class of the Senior Secondary School, which is the eligibility criterion for admission to the undergraduate courses in India. The IB issues Indian equivalent percentages for the IBDP grades to those students who intend to apply to Indian universities. Admission to most university courses in India is based on the academic achievement in Class 12 or an entrance exam. Entry requirements vary between universities and courses. Upon release of their results, DP students can apply for an equivalence certificate from AIU or apply directly to the eligibility department of the university they wish to attend. As universities in India require a hard copy of the AIU document detailing percentage equivalency, the IB forwards these documents to the school’s DP coordinator upon request. To request this service; students must notify their DP coordinator of their intention to gain entrance into an Indian university.

The IBDP curriculum certainly equips students with the skills and knowledge required in the entrance examinations, but at the same time demands the students to devote substantial time to their IBDP courses. Most of the professional institutes in conduct entrance exams for selection between April - June, while the IBDP examinations are held in May. Also the students must be aware of the subject requirements for professional courses in India for Engineering and Medicine.
